all of the lights

By now, we have pretty much all seen the "ALL OF THE LIGHTS" video and all its epic-ness (if you havent, the video is below =]). I'll admit, the first time i watched it, I wasnt that impressed, granted I didnt watch it completely from beginning to end. But I thought it was cool, just not amazing. However, upon taking a closer looking and watching the video again, I was slightly more impressed. The video is pretty dope, but I think that is partially because the song is so amazing. Sometimes, music videos make you appreciate a song more, but in this case I think the song makes us like the video more.
But wait a minute, hold up now... word on the street is that the concept for the video is not original...although it doesnt change how cool the video is, it still takes away from its "amazingness"...you can see for yourself both videos below...you be the judge.

but foreal foreal...#c'monson!

Growing up, my parents always exposed me to a variety of music. Sounds of  jazz, rap, R&B, reggae, Nigerian music took turns beaming from the boom box in my town house, or in the speakers of my parents' cars. I have grown to fully appreciate music and in turn have grown to appreciate and understand my culture. There has recently been a lot of commotion surrounding Beyonce and her depiction in a tribute to Nigerian legend Fela Kuti.

blackface? why is her face darkened?
the "explanation" :  “The Fashion magazine is about to celebrate its 90th birthday. To celebrate this anniversary, the festivities start with the March issue, with BeyoncĂ© on the cover. She agreed to pose for an incredible fashion shoot, with the theme of African Queen, paying a tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti (a political singer who died in 1997). Far from the glamorous Sasha Fierce, the beauty posed for the magazine with amazing designer clothes, and also in a dress created by her mother. A return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened. All the pictures will be available in the collectors edition, on sell at the end of this month.“

OK question: why is that people feel that in order to give tribute to Africa, one must darken their skin. African men and women come in all different, color, shapes, and sizes. I'm afraid that Beyonce has perpetuated a stereotype instead of paying homage to an incredible artist. Why is it that we have been programmed to believe that all African people must be dark? I must say, I am very confused by this entire presentation.....very confused.

please enjoy some Fela in the mean time

an ode to love.

I gotta tell you somethin' thats been eating me up inside. I have been wanting to tell you for awhile, but every time I try, I loose my nerve. So here goes... I am in love with the idea of you, love. Love, just the thought of you seems to hold so must power, so much reign. People will wait an eternity just to hear your name, especially today. "those three little words" olivejuice  try again. I love you. And when I say love, I'm talking about that breath-taking, all-encompassing, unconditional kinda love. All that romantic stuff that some how, some way lures you to become fully engulfed in it's presence. Im writing this letter with high hopes that it will someday find you, because I have never met you before.  But, I'm the type to never say never so I guess there's a slight chance I may have brushed pass you on a crowded street or exchanged a few witty remarks with you, but I didn't know it. (if thats the case, please forgive me) When we finally do meet, I know its gonna be great.
"A life without love is like a year without summer"
I will be patiently awaiting my favorite season.
Je t'aime l'amour. ♥

i dont know if i said this before, but at the age of 8, i wanted to be just like Brandy Norwood (aka a singer)...anyways im procrastinating and taking a series of "breaks"... and making half hearted singing attempts (i figure id put that disclaimer out there for all those internet gangstas out there ), this is senioritis in the wee hours of the morning at its finest!
